# Giving NPRs specific build points

I’m trying to set up a game where I start in Sol alongside an NPR with higher tech but fewer ships. I’m trying to do this with the “Create Race” button and then manually entering a specific number in the “Starting Ship Build Points” field. However, this doesn’t seem to work - the NPR always has lots and lots of ships. Any suggestions for how to make this setup?

The NPR has a minimum set of operational groups it will create to ensure a minimum set of capabilities. These ‘default’ groups use up build points from its starting pool, but the NPR will allow negative build points to finish this default set.

Oh, that’s interesting. About how many build points do they need for these defaults?

It depends on the composition of the groups and the size and technology level of the ships involved. Each NPR is different.
