Was there a change in how CMCs decide what bodies to settle on?

In previous versions, if a player put a colony on a body, the CMCs would not settle on the same body. In my current game, I’ve currently got 2 CMCs on different comets that I’ve already put colonies on, with orbital miners and mass drivers to boot.

IIRC, it used to be that the player could prevent CMCs from spawning on some world by placing an empty colony, which was nice to have as an option even if there’s not, strictly speaking, a mechanical reason to prevent CMC formation in specific locations. Since this could be considered gamey or an exploit, I suppose empty colonies not preventing CMCs from spawning makes sense, but if I’ve already got orbital miners and mass drivers on-site I’d really rather see the civilians go somewhere else?

Yes.
CMCs will only respect your colony if you have population or automines there.
(And I don’t think Steve clarified if automines includes orbital miners.)

I remember a discussion about this same topic, in the old forum.
There were both favourable and unfavourable players to your proposal [here](https://aurora4x.com/t/quick-suggestions/42/716), nuclearslurpee.
To avoid CMCs in my potential colonies, in my last 2.7.1 matches I’m accepting to have no CMCs at all, unchecking the option in the game setup:

I’m fine with CMCs, I just don’t want them where my orbital miners are. That seems to be more of an oversight to me.

I wonder if marking them as military only colonies would stop them spawning, dont recall having a problem with them in my games but I just buy the minerals as soon as I spot them popping up. So never even thought about it before.

A CMC should not be created on a body with orbital miners. If that is happening, it is a bug.

EDIT: Yes, its a bug. Also added mass drivers to the exclusion list.

If you manage to capture an enemy ship, how can you strip it for parts to speed your own research e.g. learn engine tech from their superior engines?

Follow up q - out of interest, what makes some enemy craft surrender but others not?

Just a confirmation.
The Construction Factories can build a Space Station (in the Industry tab) only when there is a Spaceport too, is it right?

Correct.

If no spaceport is present, you won’t be able to select the Space Station item in the production category drop down.

Well, you can select it, but it will immediately revert.

I share a body with a NPR, which has become hostile after several years of cohabitation.
The ground units I have there, are not attacking/invading the enemy colony: how can I force them to do?

Edit. I had just to wait for it!!

Just about to start designing some drop ships and I wanted to check something that might sound very simple and stupid - ground unit weight

For instance I have a ‘battalion’ of marines at 4900 size and a HQ at 100 making 5000 size for the whole unit - is this the actual weight of the unit - if I want to deliver 3 battalions I need the ship to be able to carry and drop 15000?

**\*\*all sizes mentioned are just an example before ‘you’ll need more than 3 battalions** \*\* 😂

Yes, the size of a formation is the tons of capacity needed to move it.

</div>

Note that formations cannot break down to fit into multiple transports (unless, of course, you manually split them up).

For example, if you have 5 formations of 10,000 tons each and 2 transports with 25,000 tons of capacity each, those 2 transports cannot fit all 5 formations - each transport can carry 2 of those formations with only 5,000 tons left over, not enough space to fit the last formation, even though the fleet has a total of 10,000 capacity available.

Therefore, it is usually best or at least easiest to make sure your transport capacities and typical formation sizes form clean multiples to minimize potential logistical problems.

I think right now I haven’t mastered combining troops

I have a security battalion on each colony made up of 5 x 5000 companies with company HQs and a battalion hq but whenever I build a new set and I go to transport them I have to load each element separately and then rebuild into the battalion at the destination

it’s never really bothered me but I see now that my 100k ton armoured division is going to be a b@&&& to load under those conditions

Is there a ‘all these elements are in this division’ button or is it best to keep them separate

When giving load/orders you can check the “Load Sub-units” box to load a group of formations in a hierarchy together.

If you mean building ground unit formations so they automatically arrange themselves hierarchically, use the Organizations tab in the Ground Forces window.

So I have the first armoured division hq

3 infantry battalions and hq overseen by a brigade hq

2 armoured battalions and bat HQs

3 field artillery battalions and HQs

1 engineering battalion and hq

I have put them all under the div hq and each element is under its corresponding hq within the division

Does this make them officially sub units of the division hq or is there another process
