V2.8.0 is now v3.0.0

I’ve decided to change the next version number to v3.0, instead of v2.8. I’ll rename in threads where I can but you still might see v2.8 appear, when I mean v3.0, so please treat them interchangeably.

The changes to add races that can breathe methane, ammonia and sulphur dioxide, along with thirty new terrains and changes to atmosphere composition will have a very significant impact on the game. I’ve also taken the opportunity to tidy up some of the environmental generation code and add six new gases to add some flavour to colder worlds.

Conquering a planet where the inhabitants are comfortable at -150C will add some new challenges, not to mention that you can no longer make any assumptions about which planets and moons might support alien colonies.

There are also a host of other significant changes that change how parts of the game are played, so I think it is time to call this v3.0.

I need to run a new campaign now to test all the environmental changes, so v3.0 is unlikely to be out in the next few weeks.

Understandable and makes sense. There’s the light naval change too.

I know its been discussed but are you planning on dealing with air units for 3.0.0?

I haven’t made a decision yet.

If you don’t mind me saying so, I kind of hope to see it in 3.0 - its like my #1 most anticipated feature at this point. I know, we get what we get but I do have high hopes for it!

Same. At this point, with the change of icons (or just making them load in from a folder) and air units, the game will be quite literally perfect.

Thank you Steve!
Frankly, I expected that v2.6.x or v2.7.x could already be v3.0.0, with their many addictions and fixes. :slightly_smiling_face:

Really looking forward to the new exotic aliens and their preferred habitats
