# What's your naval doctrine like?

I try to match the doctrine to the nation I play in any particular campaign.

For the USSR, it’s the cold-war style all-around design doctrine with focus on railguns, missiles, efficient FTL drives and engines at the complete expense of energy weapons, all ships have both offensive and defensive capabilities. Each ship is capable of independent operations if needed, however any combat deployment always happens in formations, with smallest being brigade of 3-6 ships.

Formations larger than Brigade will be formed into a **“_Operational Group_”** around a flagship. Some are permanent from which temporary Groups can be detached to perform a specific task or mission (patrol, forward interception, minelaying etc)

Ships classified as destroyers and upwards have shuttles as mandatory for S&R duties, scouting & early warning missions. Sometimes it’s big-guns centric (TurretTool used for railgun turrets), sometimes missile focused.

No purebred aircraft carriers, but _“aviation cruisers”_ since missiles are less logistical burden. Exceptions in designs are made depending on situation (current very fast spoilers forced allocation of fighter bays into certain capital ships)

Where aviation exists, they exists to fill the gap between ground-to-space artillery and deep-space navy. All high-value mining sites and populated colonies are defended at the bare minimum by ground-based railgun artillery.
