Conventional Industry

Conventional Industry is pretty interesting, it is able to produce many different types of products, from fuel, to construction, and others. What if we were able to build conventional Industry before and after TN tech? It could help jump start early colonies. One thing I believe it should have some capacity of doing, is increasing civilian industry productivity after TN tech. This would especially be useful on fledgling colonies to get up and running, and could represent state owned businesses that are centered more towards people rather than military production.

Maybe it this suggestion should be for a new type of industry, but it would be cool to see it happen.

In my (DB-edited) campaigns I have Financial Centers renamed into Сonsumer Industry for this purpose - to make small and TN-less colonies more productive if I have resources to allocate for this. The thing I don’t like in this case of renaming is there is no visible flow of production (export trade goods), so it has to be something boosting population’s readiness to work for the Empire globally, yet not through transnewtonian minerals or trade goods. In my previous campaign it was Arcology (through utility payments in terms of finances), yet it was too limited and local. With the current mechanics it has to be something like joint remote/comm-net services and I don’t know how to name it. Financial Centers is just awful, because finances do not create wealth, it’s just an accounting and redistribution instrument, so it has to be a multiplier for production capacities, not a wealth-generator itself.

The main problem with Conventional Industry is it needs Transnewtonians despite being pre-Transnewtonian - just because production time is calculated through Transnewtonians. I’ve suggested to change production time calculation into cost instead of TN consuming to make it both more realistic/intuitive and inflicting less border effect problems, yet Steve didn’t accept the suggestion, so currently I don’t support any extention of Conventional Industry role. Too many inconsistency.
