I was planning to post this under Campaign Reports, but then I noticed that those are short novels, so I’d rather write here.
I picked up version 2.7.1 a few weeks ago, after lurking on the subreddit for a bit. Completely overwhelmed at first, I turned to MOChad’s video series. I followed his guidance, but also explored the UI by myself. Trial and error was also a good teacher.
After getting my first jump ships, I went to explore the galaxy! We encountered hostiles who blew up our scouts, so I began to prepare for war. As my first FACs were coming out of the factories, a single enemy ship appeared in Sol and started to blow up all my painfully assembled mining stations. My mighty fleet of 5 FAC reacted quickly; too bad that I did not know how to tell them to shoot! We lost 3 crafts on our first engagement, before I could look up how combat works. In the end, we managed to score one internal shot before succumbing to our doom.
I had a blast, and I immediately started a second campaign, making STO weapons a priority.
Any suggestions for a noob? Currently, I am looking up video tutorials on specific topics. Series are very long, and they repeat a lot of what I learned from MOChad.
