Well, i like really big ships, so i create this universal combat ship. There only two ships of this class, which proudly in service for last 48 years. They were refitted four times and still best ships of Hyperborea Empire Navy.
First, nearly prototype, named after historical cruiser.
Second, directly upgraded.
Third. Upgrade and fixed maintenance strategy.
Fourth. Trying diplomacy aproach.
Fifth. And, currently, last. Scrap diplomacymodule and no more thermal subletely. Also she get hangar for interceptor. No more spoiler sensor ships can roam freely.
The idea of a single engine on a ship that size hurts my soul. It also has to take years to research.
it’s interesting how much the ship shrinks generation on generation- all on the lighter hull it looks like?
Better armor - lesser mass.
Engine about 10k RP, if i remember correctly, so about 3 month research and usually builded by construction factories.
Well, smaller engines need significantly more fuel and if something destroys it, that means ship already unrecoverable or have enought time to tug it home. Armor strong enough to stop even best particle lance if wiki data’s correct.
P.s. i think i beef her up to 150kt later, after fix stange game perfomace drop and research railguns for PD.
Fuel usage is not really a problem though. Losing the sole source of manuevering is a much more valid concern. And the problem with a tug is that towing a military ship, makes the tug a military ship, with all the drawbacks, including deployment time and failures.
The ship would be much better with 10 engines instead of 1.

Fuel can be a problem, depends on the overall situation. I do agree that it would be good to have at least 2 engines instead of just one. That still gives you a pretty good fuel efficiency from engine size.
As i say it before, if something (m.b. except mesons) damage engine, then ship already dead (or lucky kill last enemy and have MONTHS to evacuation by sended from home tug or self-repair by damage control). No matter here only one engine or ten. Shields and armor too strong for lucky hit from low-dps enemy.
