After several hours of firing at 750 homeworld PD stations by one huge ship… (There are still quite a lot of them)
I would like to suggest a few improvements, mainly QoL.
1. Keep the lists of Unassigned Weapons and Available Missiles minimized when updating the window
Sometimes I need to reassign quick-firing guns by FC, leaving a fairly large list of unassigned weapons. As a result, each time targets are assigned, the window is updated, and the unassigned list takes up half of the window. It’s quite inconvenient.
2. Each type of weapon (unassigned) and each type of target forms its own sub-list
For example, I want to assign railguns while leaving 20 (particle) beams unassigned. In this case, I just don’t have enough window size to assign railguns, since beams are higher in the list.
Similarly, if I want to attack a particular class of enemy ships, it would be much more convenient to maximized one sub-list than to constantly rewind one huge list.
This will make it much easier to work with one window (I know that you can open several). And since the sub-lists will be maximized by default, I think this will not interfere with a small number of weapons/targets of the same type.
2.1. Dragging a sublist as an FC target sets a random (Fire at Will) target from that sublist.
The purpose is in the name. ![]()
3. Autoselect Next Target - FC option
How it works: The activation of Autotarget is determined by the player for each FC. After the target is destroyed or out of range, a Fire at Will target selection is applied to the FC. If the target has not been selected, nothing happens.
Why you need it: You need to destroy a lot of ships, and you don’t care about the order of target selection.
FC (Fire at Will FC вместо Fire at Will Fleet). For example, your cruisers are equipped with expensive anti-ship weapons and cheap anti-fighter weapons. Your fleet of 10 cruisers meets 200 fighters. You definitely won’t want to shoot them with expensive weapons, so you’ll have to manually assign FC targets (Fire at Will FC instead of Fire at Will Fleet). With this option enabled, you won’t have to reassign the target after each destroyed fighter (180 times).
Another example. In a theoretical 100x100 battle, you pressed Fire at Will Fleet. Your ships have destroyed several enemy ships. You don’t know exactly which FCs are left without a target - each ship can fire at several at the same time. With this feature, all released FCs will choose new targets for themselves, without it you will have to check each ship or reset the targets with another Fire at Will Fleet.
3.1. Fire at Will Untargeted
This idea just came to me while I was writing the second example to the previous paragraph. But 3. it will still be useful, as it does not assign targets to weapons that you would not like to shoot.
Probably, with the addition of the “Firing FC Only” checkbox, it would have solved this problem as well. But you will still have to press this button very often when you have few FCs and hundreds of enemies.

I hope these ideas will be useful. ![]()
