Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread

Resolution says the dimension of the targets that you can detect at which distance.
Let’s try an example.
Go to the window “Create Research Project”, and select the “Active Sensors”.
Set the Sensor Strength 10, then EM Sensor Sensitivity 5. Don’t touch the other parameters.
In the right panel of the window, you should find these rows:
Resolution 100 Maximum Range vs 5000 ton object (or larger): 18,517,239 km
Range vs 1000 ton object: 740,690 km
Range vs 250 ton object: 46,293 km

Now, back to the left panel.
Try to change from “Resolution: 5,000 (100 HS)” to “Resolution: 1,000 (20 HS)”.
On the right now you get
Resolution 20 Maximum Range vs 1000 ton object (or larger): 10,828,947 km
Range vs 1000 ton object: 10,828,947 km
Range vs 250 ton object: 676,809 km

So, you have two sensors, of the same dimensions (1 HS (50 tons)), i.e. mass installed on a ship, but the first (Res 5,000) can see an object of 1,000 tons at 740,690 km, while the second (Res 1,000) can see the same thing of 1,000 tons at 10,828,947 km.
I’m not sure about the exact distance, but the second sensor can surely see a 5000 ton object much, much more far away than the first sensor.
The largest sensor I can build is Size 50, i.e. its mass can be as large as 2,500 tons.
Using the parameters of the first sensor, even if I build a Size 50 sensor, it can see a 1,000 ton object at most at 5,237,466 km = half the distance of the second one.

You can think of this: the technology of the second sensor assures that it has much more power than the first one, so it can detect the objects (also the smaller ones) from a very long distance.

Perfect thank you

Why would I need a res of 1 - is this for spotting missiles?

Yes.
If you try, “Active Sensors”, Sensor Strength 10, EM Sensor Sensitivity 5, Size 1, the rows in the right panel say
Resolution 1 Maximum Range vs 50 ton object (or larger): 3,989,418 km
Range vs Size 6 Missile (or smaller): 359,048 km
Range vs Size 8 Missile: 638,307 km
Range vs Size 12 Missile: 1,436,191 km

Can a fleet land on or take off from a CV while this one is moving?

yes, it absolutely can

It can take off and land from a CV that is inside ANOTHER moving CV too

Economics window, POWs tab: the prisoners still on a ship, would they be shown too?

Am I right in thinking NPC commercial companies won’t travel through a gate with a tender ship as opposed to a stabilised jump point?

That is correct. It needs to be stabilised

How do I fire just 1 missile from the launcher - it has 4 in the magazine but I only want to fire one

When you give a launch order it launches 1 missile per launcher assigned to the fire control, in combat it will fire again when the launcher reloads unless you have removed the target or removed the launcher from a fire control, or ordered cease fire . You cannot launch all the missiles in the magaszine in one salvo or there would be no purpose to reload times

Is there a way to control the speed of a fleet? I want to follow an NPR fleet at a set distance without catching up (my fleet is faster). I’ve tried the “Set Speed” button in the Naval organization window, but the speed of my fleet never changes from its maximum speed. I’ve tried using the set speed button before giving an order (follow contact fleet), and after an order is given, but again, full speed ahead is all that happens.

SJW: You need to uncheck ‘Use Maximum Speed’

It isn’t combat per se - I’m firing at a waypoint with sensor drones but by the time I can cancel the fire order it empties the magazine

just wondered if there was a fire one missile and ceasefire option

I’ve only fired at fleet targets, but I think that firing missiles isn’t a pause action. Maybe do a short time period (5 seconds) without automatically going to the next time period. Then go back to your ship combat screen and do a cease fire on the FC or change targets?

as crash_badnit suggests do not take a 30 day turn, take a 5 second turn without auto turns on and you cannot empty your magazine.

You need to uncheck the “use maximum speed” checkbox.

:man_facepalming: of course - thank you

Missed that checkbox. Thank you much!

Don’t adjust the fleet speed, you are working too hard. Type the desired distance into the Minimum Distance box at the bottom of the orders window before issuing the follow order.

Hey guys, is there a real use-case for Main Engineering beyond roleplay? If there is, at which (ballpark) point it is better than just slapping 3 more Engineering Spaces?
