As per topic, I started using Notion to track mostly my notes and strategies in a multi race campaign. Anybody using Notion, One Note, or have upgraded to Obsidian?
Any other external tool that is not excel/word?
Looking at ideas to implement and extend my current template.
I use OneNote a little bit, mostly to record intel on enemy fleets and locations. I find I’d rather just save a quick screen snip rather than type out all the info. OneNote lets me do that easily, and type extra notes as needed. And it does calculations inline as I type, which is handy.
With the move to Discourse for the forum, I have started using Obsidian to keep campaign notes. As long as you avoid leveraging some Obsidian-specific features, the results can be pasted into forum posts fairly easily for AAR purposes.
Obsidian has been my preferred note taking tool for awhile now, for everything I do. It has the least friction in getting data in and out without distortion or formatting headaches.
I use a physical notebook. With lists.
It works well enough.
Pen and paper for me too. Used to use a whiteboard but no room with current room layout
Do you use the screenshots from the map as well?
The main reason I started to look at external tools is that I use the map a lot for notes, however, since it is not centralized, I need an external tool for multi race so I dont need to jump back and forth.
I am at the point Photoshop Elements doesnt do it for me anymore.
I was a bit intimidated by Obsidian and Notion looked a bit more friendly and easier. Haven’t used it much Obsidian or Notion yet to draw a fair comparison though.
It’s pretty easy to paste images in, although I’m a bit “old school” about it apparently since the “meta” in Obsidian seems to be having all your images sitting in a single folder without descriptive file names and I simply won’t have that under my roof clamshell. 
I have a billion sheets of scrap paper accumulated in the years before I retired. Memos, etc printed on one side. The wife cuts them into 2 x 4 inch pieces when we need scrap paper upon which to write grocery lists, etc. That’s what I use for my Aurora notes and lists. Sometimes I also use Notepad.
But I have suggested an integrated Notes tab for each system screen, where the player can easily keep track of what they are planning to do in that system:
“Ship Construction Factories from Sol to Wolf until Wolf has 30”
“Build Ordnance Factories in Procyon”
“Drop 15 auto mines onto Asteroid 25”
Etc…
I love the idea of there being a notes tab which lists the systems where you have notes in too so you can get a quick overview of everywhere where you’ve made plans
yeah, that’s pretty much the way I am using it so I dont have to jump around too much
That would be a perfect tab on via tactical map, double click one in the list and it opens the notes window with that note auto-selected from the drop down list
