Is there a simple way to completely delete a wrongly designed component when in the Ship Design Screen ?( rather than obsoleting in this screen - where it still appears in the Techhnology Tab or deleting when in the Research Screen )

The only way I know is to edit the database.
In the Research window, there is a radio button to switch between Available and Completed projects. Switch to Completed, locate the tech for that component, and delete it.

However that button only relates to completed components. I was looking for a way to just delete an incorrect component from within the Ship Design Screen ( e.g a prototype that does not fit ) rather than having to delete from the Research Screen. I know that swapping screens is not a chore but I just wondered if it was possible from the Ship Design Screen.

Sadly not. People have asked for this but it has not been added as far as I know.
You can click Research Proto then delete the incomplete research.
