Repeating researches

Having repeating researches is nice for when people play the same save a lot and for when you run out of researches to do

Sorry, but frankly I don’t understand what you mean.
Once a topic is researched, you can apply or exploit it. So, why research it again?

Have you ever heard of Stellaris repeatable researches? Like those for when you research the entire tech tree and have nothing else to research

What OP is talking about is a research that you can repeat and with each completion it adds a percentage buff to some stat.

Current researches are binary - yes or no. Do you have the thing? Then you can use the thing.

They’re talking about linear research. Instead of yes/no true/false it just compounds upon previous bonuses.

They’re proposing something similar to Shadow Empires Applied Research tech lines if you’re familiar with that game

Has anyone ever seriously maxed out the Aurora tech tree in the course of a regular game? Ever?

If you remember Stormtrooper’s AARs on the old forums, he came close once or twice and may even have reached max tech in one AAR. It is certainly possible on default settings.

Doesn’t even have to be the end of the tree.

As an example, in Shadow Empires you unlock the applied sciences trees (theres a couple different sub categories) in the early to mid game, but they’re prohibitively expenses and have diminishing returns on investment. Aurora doesn’t really have a way to model it exactly the same way, but the idea is there. An “efficiency” series of techs that boost one specific thing with diminishing returns on investment.

Could be something like increasing engine power to weight efficiency. Each research increases eninge power per hull size by say 1-2%, but each research is say 50-100% more expensive. Not really worth it in the early game, but at some point it would be worth it to through an unused scientist on it when the cost for that little boost is a fraction of the next tech level. Could be a way to edge the math in your favor when fighting comparable forces.

There comes a time where we know everything we want to know.

A stagnating empire is an empire of stability, said the emperor.

Yeah, in every game I do that.

Ground Forces. :slightly_smiling_face:

Some repeating researches like “+1 Racial Armor” and “+1 Racial Weapon” sounds good, I think. At least that’s something.
